The site once known as Franklin Elementary or Fourth Ward School is being transformed into a public park. The NEW Franklin Park has become a reality through the support of the Van Wert County Foundation, Scott & Nikki Niswonger and the City of Van Wert Parks & Recreation Department.
Plans for a new Van Wert neighborhood park are on track to begin Spring of 2016. Franklin Park will be built on the site where the former Franklin Elementary School once stood. The parks design is being filled with two age appropriate playgrounds, walking path, basketball court, pickleball courts and a shelter house. The park will also includes skateboard elements, splash pad and be will enhanced with open space, landscaping and signage that will complete the entire design of the park.

Enjoy the progression and development of Franklin Park. Pictures added as we go along. The majority of perimeter sidewalks are installed as well as all utilities; water and electrical lines. The Pavilion is coming along very nicely. Two playgrounds for for the 2-5 and 5-12 age groups are installed and are even being used by the public already. The splash pad is in but will not operate as of yet.
